Expectation Walks

When students return from break on January 3rd, each class will partake in a variety of expectation walks to review expected behavior within the school following our CHAMPS expectations, in the bathroom, hallway, lining up, entering, exiting, recess, & lunch.  We are very excited to include 5th-grade students in co-presenting these expectations.  The classroom teachers will individually review their classroom expectations as well.

Please remember that drivers should NOT use Cell Phones while driving. Please refrain from using it within the school zone.

If you are picking up your child at the end of the day, please do NOT call for your child or wave them to cross the cross-walk alone.  To ensure EVERYONE'S safety, please walk to get your child through the cross-walk.

Halloween Party Fun

Please enjoy this video of photos taken on Friday (10/29) during the Halloween Parties!! We were so happy to be able to make new memories during the parties and the parade.   Thank you to all of the parents who helped make Friday an extra special day!

Parking Lot Reminders

A friendly reminder to please use your turn signals when entering and leaving the parking lot to ensure all are safe during the morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.  THANK YOU!!

Dressing for the Weather

It's that time of year again when we need to dress in layers.  Please remember to dress your children warm with coats, hats, and gloves as they do go outside for a 20-minute recess and a variety of mask breaks anytime it is above 4 degrees real feel temperature.

Staff Shout Outs

Thank you to those who have shared a teacher shout-out already!  I share the shout-outs with the staff member on a Monday and it is a really great way to start their week off knowing how much they are appreciated.  Thank you!! If you would like to give a shout-out to a teacher or staff member, please email me Samantha Aversa (10017@kaneland.org) with a short blurb about a teacher that has gone above and beyond for your student.    Thank you so much for your continued support!

We Need Your Support

This year we have noticed an increase in students being physical with other students. Pushing, hitting, grabbing, etc in the classroom, hallways, and mainly at recess. We are working with our Behavior Interventions to support these behaviors around the school with a variety of whole-class, small group, and individual interventions but could use your help at home to remind students that the expectation at school is to NOT use physical contact.  For example: getting the attention of another student, using their name, and not hitting them.  Playing tag outside should be a touch and not pull a student's arm or clothes. Or hitting someone when they are frustrated. Instead, we encourage students to use STOP, WALK, and TALK.  When a student feels they are upset or angry they need to use the strategy: stop what they are doing, walk away from that situation, and talk to an adult for more help.  We appreciate you working with your child at home to remind them of these expectations.

Masks/Water Bottles

Please remember to send your child with extra masks in their backpacks and a labeled water bottle daily.  Our water fountains are still only used to refill bottles.

Bus Reminder

Just a reminder on the bus that students should NOT be eating any food for safety reasons.  Thank you for helping remind your student(s)!

Masks

Please send your child with extra masks in their backpack. Many disposable masks are getting broken or lost at the playground. Regular cotton masks are getting dirty/wet, a new mask would be helpful too.  Students are being asked and reminded to put their masks in their lunchbox, pocket, or wear it around their wrist while at the playground, however, they are still getting misplaced or broken we are still going through a large number of disposable masks here.  Thank you for your help!

Walk to School

Approximately 400 students from John Stewart Elementary will walk to school on Wednesday, October 6 along with parents, teachers, and the Elburn Police Department. If your student is a bus rider or car rider, we will take the students around the track on the west side of the building before entering the school to participate in the event.

In the United States, International Walk to School Day is expected to include more than

5,000 events across all 50 states. Walkers from the U.S. will join children and adults in 40

countries around the world.

Walk to School Day events work to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, concern for the environment, and building connections between families, schools, and the broader community.

The event is being organized by John Stewart's PTN
