Important Back-to-School Information

We are so excited to welcome our John Stewart Students back for another amazing school year! Below you will find important information to help your family prepare for the first day of school. Please take a few minutes to review arrival/dismissal procedures, important dates, and other reminders.

Curriculum Night & Supply Drop-Off

Kindergarten Families

Thursday, August 6 | 4:00-6:00 PM

Kindergarten families are invited to join us for an evening to meet teachers, learn more about kindergarten, and get comfortable before the first day of school.

Families will:

  • Bring student supplies

  • Hear a presentation from the Principal and Kindergarten Teachers

  • Have an opportunity for kindergarten students to play on the playground

  • Take a self-guided tour of the school

  • Visit the PTN information table

Please note: This event is for kindergarten students and guardians only. We kindly ask that siblings do not attend.

1st-5th Grade Families

Monday, August 10 | 4:00-6:00 PM

Families are welcome to:

  • Bring student supplies

  • Meet your child's teacher

  • Tour the school

  • Visit the PTN information table and spirit wear area

  • Connect with other Stewart families

Teacher curriculum presentations will be emailed to families at 3:00 PM. Families may stop by anytime between 4:00-6:00 PM.   We can't wait to see everyone again soon!


Free Shirt - Please Complete Form!

Please Complete THIS FORM for each of your students at KST for a Free Kaneland Shirt.  Please complete by Friday, August 28th. 


Teacher Assignments

Teacher assignments are now available in your child's Infinite Campus Parent Portal. They went live on Thursday, July 30.



First Day of School

Wednesday, August 12

On the first day of school, students will line up at their assigned entrance door. Parents are kindly asked to stay in the parent waiting zone for the safety and security of all students. 

Arrival Locations:

  • 4th & 5th Grade → Door 12

  • Kindergarten & 3rd Grade → Door 1

  • 1st & 2nd Grade → Door 2

Staff members will be outside to help students find their teachers. Students will enter the building together with their classes.

The PTN will have a Card My Yard sign available for families who would like to take a first-day photo.


School Hours

First Bell: 8:45 AM
Tardy Bell: 8:50 AM
Students arriving after 8:50 AM must be signed in at the main office by their parent or guardian.

AM Kindergarten Dismissal: 11:30 AM

Bus Dismissal: 3:25 PM (NEW)

Walker/Car Rider Dismissal: 3:30 PM  *Please note that Bus and Car Rider times have switched to get our busses out first. 

Main Office Hours: 7:45 AM-4:00 PM

Please remember:
Students should not arrive before 8:40 AM, as there is no supervision available. If you do arrive early, families may stay with their child until supervision begins.


Arrival & Dismissal Reminders

To keep all students safe, please remember:

  • Parents should say goodbye at the Parent Wave/Waiting Zone located at the “Students Only Beyond This Point” sign.

  • Do not use cell phones while driving in the school zone.

  • Do not enter or exit the main parking lot while buses are present.

  • All drop-off and pick-up should occur in the west lot.

  • Students MUST use the crosswalk with the crossing guard.

  • Left turns into either parking lot are not permitted during arrival and dismissal.

  • In the car line, please pull forward before allowing students to enter/exit.

  • Students must enter and exit vehicles from the curbside only.

  • If you would like to walk your child up, please park in a designated parking space.

Prepaid Milk

Prepaid milk is now available for the 2026-2027 school year through the Infinite Campus Portal

Milk may be purchased:

  • For the full year OR by semester

Cost: $0.55 per milk

  • 1st Semester: $48

  • 2nd Semester: $48

  • Full Year: $96

Orders are due by Friday, August 14, 2026. Milk service begins on the first day of school.

Milk may also be purchased daily for $0.55.


Free & Reduced Lunch Applications

Applications for the 2026-2027 school year are available at www.kaneland.org for families who qualify based on income eligibility, SNAP, TANF, or eligible Medicaid status.

If your family qualified during the previous school year, benefits will continue for 30 school days while a new application is processed.


Health Office Reminders

  • All students entering kindergarten need a completed physical with required immunizations. Please make sure you have filled out and signed the parent portion of the form. Dental and vision exam forms are also required.


  • Students entering 2nd grade are required to submit a completed dental exam. 


  • For students that take any medications at school, a Medication Authorization Form must be submitted with physician and parent signatures.


  • Students with Asthma, Allergies, Diabetes, or Seizures should have an action plan/healthcare plan submitted to the health office. 


Healthcare Forms are available on the school website at Health Services - Kaneland CUSD #302, in the health offices, and at your physician’s office. They can be submitted to the school office or emailed to 10827@kaneland.org.

Before & After School Care

The Sugar Grove Park District offers before and after-school care for John Stewart Elementary students, conveniently located right here at our school. This program provides a safe, engaging environment for students before and after the school day.
